Erebuni Museum – Erebuni Fortress, built by King Argishti in 782, was identified with the foundation of the Armenian capital. The excavations of Erebuni are in Yerevan, in the valley of Arin Berd. Here is a museum where antique objects have been discovered during excavations, among them: old books, weapons, illustrations, expensive jewelry, utensils and other accessories. Nearby, it is possible to see the ruined walls of the old castle and the restored halls of the royal palace.
The Memorial Complex of Tsitsernakaberd (Genocide Victims Memorial, Genocide Museum) is dedicated to the memory of the 1915 Armenian Genocide victims in Western Armenia and Ottoman Turkey and it has become a great tragedy for the Armenian people, which had a loss of 1.5 million Armenians (official data). The museum consists of several exhibition halls where historical documents, maps and photographs are presented, and the excursions to the museum are conducted in several foreign languages. The museum is part of the Memorial to the Genocide Victims, located above the hill and built by the efforts of architects Artur Tarkhanian and Sashur Kalashian in the 1960s.
Matenadaran – The name of the Matenadaran museum literally means “pad of books”. The Institute of Ancient Manuscripts of Matenadaran was opened in 1959 by architect Mark Grigorian. Matenadaran contains tens of thousands of old manuscripts and documents, including papers written in Russian, Greek, Arabic, Georgian and other languages, as well as magnificent medieval miniature paintings, which are the objects of pride in Armenia.
