Lake Sevan is surrounded by Geghama Mountains. It is one of the largest mountain lakes in the world, where 28 rivers flow, and only one originates from it. Lake Sevan is located in the central part of Armenia, at the altitude of 1900 m above sea level. Sevan is the only large lake in Armenia, one of the three important lakes that were called the sea in ancient times. Lake Sevan is a freshwater lake, one of the highest in the world, and the largest in the Caucasus. There are many types of fish in the lake, but the most delicious fish is cypress, which can be tasted at a restaurant near the lake. The landscape here is diverse, with high mountains, rocky coasts, mountain forests. Lake Sevan is one of the most famous resorts in Armenia.

The monastery of Sevanavank is located on the peninsula of Lake Sevan, which was an island down to the water level. The complex consists of 4 churches, two of which, according to the legend, were built by Gregory the Illuminator and the other two by the order of Princess Mariam (King Ashot Bagratuni’s daughter). Now there are 2 functioning churches in Sevanavanq.

Hayravank Monastery (9-12th centuries) is made up of the church, chapel and entrance hall. Around the monastery, you can see many cross-stones and gravestones that are part of the cemetery. There are remnants of the Bronze Age, the walls of the medieval fortress and the base of the village in the north-western direction of the monastery. Archaeological excavations have revealed the remaining items from the beginning of the Bronze Age: pistols, metal and stone weapons, tools, many vessels, hearts, and graves.

Noratus (IV-XVIII century) is a medieval cemetery famous for its numerous ancient khachkars (900 khachkars). Khachkars (cross-stones) are recognized as UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage. On Noratus cross-stones not only crosses are depicted but also household scenes, plants, and geometric images.
