The monastery of Sevanavank is located on the peninsula of Lake Sevan, which was an island down to the water level. “Kecharis” monastic complex is a monastery complex of the XI-XIII centuries in Tsakhkadzor, built by the Pahlavuni princes. Its construction continued until the mid-XIII century. In XII-XIII centuries the monastery was one of the largest spiritual centers of Armenia and had its own school.
In 1033, Grigor Magistros built the St. Gregory the Illuminator Church. In the southern part of this church, behind a few khachkars (cross-stone), a small cross-shaped Surb Nshan cathedral is built. It was built in the 11th century and restored in 1223 by Mr. Vache. In 1203-1214, Prince Vasak Khaghbakyan built the third church in the monastery, St. Katoghikeh. There is a small rectangular chapel of XI century between St. Gregory the Illuminator and St. Nshan churches. It served as the grave of the founder of the monastery, Grigor Magistros Pahlavuni. St. Harutyun, the fourth church, located 120 meters from the monastic buildings, was built in 1220.
