Mount Aragats (4090 m) is the highest mountain in the modern Republic of Armenia and one of the highest peaks of the Armenian Highland. Meanwhile, Ararat is Armenia’s symbol. If you want to see the beauty of the Armenian nature, to breathe fresh, clean mountain air and feel the beauty of the Armenian landscape, you have to go to Aragats. Mount Aragats is situated at a height of 3190 meters above sea level and is composed primarily of ice.
The Armenian alphabet monument is located in the village of Artashavan on the eastern slope of Aragats. It was built in 2005 by architect Jim Torosyan’s design on the 1600th anniversary of the creation of the Armenian alphabet. The monument consists of 39 letters of the Armenian alphabet. The Armenian alphabet was created in 405-406. To date, it has been used for writing words in Armenian. It was developed by linguist and church leader Mesrop Mashtots for making the Bible available for the Armenian people and spreading Christianity. The original version of Mashtots alphabet was composed of 36 letters, but another 3 were added in the Middle Ages.
Amberd Fortress is one of the most beautiful examples of medieval Armenian architecture. Armenian builders built their castles using natural protection. The castle of Amberd is a vivid proof of it. It was built of rock clippings. The main part of the castle, the church, was built by Vahram Pahlavuni in 1026.
