Day 1 – Arrival and departure from Zvartnots airport to the hotel. Walking tour along the sights of Yerevan. It will allow you to get acquainted with the Armenian capital. Visit to Yerevan Brandy factory where you can taste different types of cognac. Evening jazz concert in one of Yerevan’s finest cafes (“Toumanyan Island”). Overnight at the hotel.
Day 2 – Breakfast at the hotel. Excursion to Garni, the only pagan temple in the Caucasus (built in the 1st century BC by King Tiridates I). The temple, with its unique design (in Greek-Roman and Armenian style), was devoted to the sun god, Mihr. Visiting Geghard monastery complex, part of which is submerged in the cliff, from here is the old name – Ayrivank (“cave monastery”). The spear was kept in this monastery for 500 years since the name of Geghard, which in Armenian means “spear”. Departure to Etchmiadzin, visit the Mother Cathedral (IV-V cc.), Hripsime Church (VII century), Gayane Church (VII century), Shoghakat Church. Then we will visit Zvartnots Temple, which is located near Yerevan and is one of the brightest examples of medieval Armenian architecture.
Day 3 – Trip to Khor Virap, which is located at the foot of Mount Ararat. Here is a wonderful view of the Biblical Mount. The monastery was built on the site of the St. Gregory the Illuminator (deep pit). Then we will go to Areni village to visit Areni 1 Cave, which dates back to 5000s BC. We will visit a local winemaking restaurant, have lunch and taste different types of wines, then we will go to Noravank (XIII century), famous for its unusual architecture. After visiting the monastery of Tatev (9th century), we will reach the world’s longest ropeway (included in the Guinness book). Then we will visit Goris. Overnight in Goris, at the hotel.
Day 4 – Breakfast in Goris, in the hotel. Visit to Khndzoresk, where you can see the caves where people lived until the 20th century. Then visit Karahunj, where the oldest Observatory (7000 years) is situated. While crossing the Selim Pass, a short stop at the medieval caravanserai (XIII century), through which the Silk Road passes. Visit to Noratus, a cross-stone medieval cemetery, included in the UNESCO list. After going to Lake Sevan, we will visit Sevanavank Monastery, located on the peninsula on the northwest coast of the Lake. From here opens the beautiful view of Sevan. Visit to Dilijan, which is unique in its nature and history. Overnight in Dilijan, at the hotel.
Day 5 – Breakfast in Dilijan, at the hotel. Visit to Goshavank and Haghartsin (XII-XIII centuries) monastic complexes. Then visit the north-east of Armenia, Haghpat, and Sanahin monasteries (X-XIII centuries), included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Then visit to Gyumri. Overnight in Gyumri, at the hotel.
Day 6 – Breakfast at the hotel. Sightseeing in Gyumri. Visiting the Black Castle, built during the reign of Emperor Nikolay I, as well as a visit to Kumayri ancient city (historical and museum reserve).
If you want, we can dine at the Cherkesse Canyon Fish Restaurant, which is rich in Armenian cuisine.
Transfer to the airport and departure.
